I love winter weddings! Winter for me is such a magical time of year, there is a freshness in the air, a warmth in the sun and of course it's Christmas. When Louise & Adam asked me to document their winter wedding at Lulworth Castle in Dorset I had to say yes! There's no better time for photos than the winter, the sun lingers in the sky and creates the most beautiful shots. The day did not disappoint, although thunder and lightening was predicted, we were blessed with that beautiful winter sunshine as the couple became husband and wife. We met in the summer again at Lulworth Cove for their engagement shoot which you can see here.
The day started at The Pig on the Beach in Studland, a gorgeous hotel overlooking the coast. With a very stormy morning, I met the bridal party in their room as they started to get ready for the day with excitement. Louise had picked the most beautiful, wild looking flowers for her bouquets. The couple had found feathers to decorate the flowers which complimented the autumnal colours perfectly. After the hair and make-up was done, dresses on, I soon headed to Lulworth Castle to capture the guests arriving. By this time, the storm had passed and the sun started to peep out behind the clouds.
Inside the castle was decorated with tea lights hanging from the walls, creating a romantic vibe. I have never seen such a beautiful setting for a wedding, it was like something out of a fairytale! Guests were welcomed into the ceremony room with violinists as the sun shone through the floor to ceiling windows, filling the room with warmth on the cold December day. The ceremony was soon held and was as intimate as it could be. Family and friends were smiling from ear to ear watching the couple said their vows, with of course a few tears. Readings were made from the couple's closest and the registrar signed. Soon, the wedding party made their way outside to celebrate with confetti and champagne.
Guests wandered the castle and admired the couple's photos hanging from the walls, signed the Christmas tree guest book and chatted amongst the late afternoon sunshine. As the time passed, it was time for the wedding breakfast. The table plan was a beautifully designed map of special places to the couple, with matching table signs held by up by miniature logs.
Each guest was given a Christmas tree decoration stunningly carved with their name and a stag in the forest. What an amazing idea! As well as the favours were Alzheimer's Society badges, a well thought gesture for Adam's Grandparents. The candlelit dinner began, followed by intimate speeches and soon the party started! The couple had arranged an evening casino with 'Luxton' money for guests to enjoy gambling with. There was also a evening Photo Booth with hilarious props and friends of the couple entertained the guests with great music until the moon appeared behind the castle and carriages arrived.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Luxton! Thank you for letting me be a part of your beautiful day and trusting me with your photos.
